Dr. Rajan Mahtani

The year 2022 is about to come to an end. President Hakainde Hichilema on the occasion of Africa Day announced that his government plans to abolish the death penalty row. While supporting this statement, Dr. Mahtani stated that death penalty is inhumane, degrading and cruel. The law is abolished across the majority of the global nations as well as Africa and it was high time for the Zambian government to take such a decision. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also praised the Zambian President’s decision by stating that while previous Presidents of Zambia surely attempted to stay far away from capital punishment, none of those Presidents honestly worked in the direction of bringing down this inhumane and merciless death penalty down. Zambian President announces eradicating death penalty law.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman, charity worker and philanthropist from Zambia. One of his top philanthropic contributions to the Zambian economy and society is Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ). Recently, Dr. Mahtani pledged full support towards the decision made by the Zambian President towards abolishing death penalty. On Africa Day, President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema announced that his government is planning to abolish the archaic law of death penalty permanently from his country. This statement from the Zambian President received significant support barring a few mixed reactions. While supporting this statement from the President of Zambia, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that it is one thing to make such a statement and an entirely different strategy to ensure that this announcement becomes a reality soon. This path will require significant legal reforms, persuading the government and ensuring that the process is smooth with minimum roadblocks. As such, Dr. Mahtani owned Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide full legal and regulatory support to make this announcement a reality. While praising this decision, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also said that only an individual who respects fundamental human rights, basic human dignity, an individual respecting the ‘rule of law’ and an individual who prays the god will be able to make such a statement

In his interview excerpt, Dr. Mahtani highlighted that the concept of death penalty has largely been abolished across the globe and the trend can be observed across Africa and Zambia too. The President was thereby commended for leading the path toward respecting the right towards life. Another factor that Dr. Mahtani highlighted was the increasingly degrading condition of the Zambian prisons, especially the maximum prisons where prisoners are often devoid of fundamental human rights and basic human dignity. Past Presidents have tactically avoided giving death penalty and the last death penalty was given in the year 1997. As such, it was long due from the Zambian Government to conclude the archaic death penalty law and abolish it.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani extends full support to death penalty abolishment

On the event of Africa Day, Zambian President announced his quest towards abolishing the death penalty law. President Hakainde Hichilema announced that the process of death penalty is archaic and Zambia is behind majority of the other nations in bringing the much needed change of abolishing the death penalty law. This statement from the Zambian President has received significant praise from across Zambia, including that of noted businessman and philanthropist Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. While praising the statement, Dr. Mahtani said that death penalty is cruel, degrading and inhumane and goes completely against the religious and social standards in today’s world. Dr. Mahtani further stated that majority of the Presidents in the past have refused to sign the death warrant. A major reason for this refusal is the growing consensus across the globe regarding abolishing death penalty. Majority of the nations across the world as well as many within the African nation itself have implemented laws for abolishing and eradicating death penalty. This has given immense pressure to the Presidents, resulting in avoiding death warrant using tactics and giving mercy pleas. Another major reason why this announcement is step in the right direction is the present condition of Zambian prisons. Past visits from notable politicians such acting President Guy Scott revealed the horrific conditions of these prisons, especially the Maximum prisons where prisoners are often devoid of basic human dignity and fundamental human rights. This has prompted the Zambian Government to establish new initiative of strategic decongestion of prisons in which prisoners are strategically released after appropriate transformation. To achieve this, the Zambian government has collaborated with institutions such as Parole Board Zambia (PBZ) and Correctional Facilities. In this scenario, giving death penalty does not make any sense for the Zambian government.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani also stated that transforming the statement into a reality will take significant legal reforms. As such, his company Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide the required legal and regulatory support towards this statement by the Zambian President.

The Fate Of Portland Cement Zambia Hangs In Balance With The Latest Lusaka HC Announcement

The case of Portland Cement Zambia is a classic case of legal obligations and ownership issue taking a toll in the development and growth of the factory. The case was registered by Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a noted industrialist, businessman and philanthropist. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is credited for bringing foreign investments in Zambia. He is also noted for his regular charitable and philanthropic contributions towards the Zambian society. In spite of these achievements, Dr. Mahtani continuously faces conspiracies and difficulties when trying to conduct honest businesses.

Portland Cement Zambia Case

The current condition of the factory can be considered as dismal, majorly due the case and lack of leadership around the factory. This has resulted in dismal production, irregular salary and wages structure and lack of motivation from the employees and workers. It is safe to say that, if the condition of the factory remains same, it might soon become impossible for anyone to bring the factory back to its glory days. The only path that remains viable is giving the factory to its rightful owner and ensuring that the factory starts its production process and other activities as before.

After one of the longest running trials stretching for over a decade, few critical announcements were made in the past few months. The first major announcement was the closure of the case hearing, which meant that the case verdict will be announced based the evidences and testimonials submitted by the parties. However, the second major announcement was more shocking, which was also the final verdict for the case. The final verdict was announced against the claims made by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. It was a clear indication that the evidences submitted were ignored in all accounts and judgment was misdirected. Now withstanding this skewed judgment, Dr. Mahtani quickly took action and made an appeal to the ‘higher court of appeal’ against this judgment. Reply is awaited as of now.
