Dr. Mahtani extends full support for Zambian President’s decision.

After several decades of dodging the needful, the government of Zambian finally decided to take the right action. It came from the current Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who made a critical announcement on the eve of Africa day which is celebrated every year on 25th May. On this day, the Zambian President announced his plans to completely abolish the death penalty law from Zambian law and order. Since this announcement, several positive responses and praises have been received by the President. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a celebrated philanthropist, serial businessman and venture capitalist from Zambia. He is known for his successful businesses not only in Zambia and Africa but also across other international locations such as the United Kingdom. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further supported this decision by stating that death penalty is inhumane and cruel and must be abolished. Dr. Mahtani cited examples from international laws and highlighted that death penalty is banned across majority of the nations. Even in Africa, death penalty abolishment has become the talk of the moment. As such, it was high time for the Zambian government to take action. Nevertheless, Dr. Mahtani praised the decision from the Zambian President by stating that only an individual who respects the ‘right to live’, who loves God and wants fundamental human rights for all will be able to make such a difficult, bold yet righteous decision. Past Presidents have been dodging the responsibility by avoiding death penalty and making mercy prerogatives. As such, the decision from the current Zambian President is a step in the right direction.

While supporting this statement from the President of Zambia, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that it is one thing to make such a statement and an entirely different strategy to ensure that this announcement becomes a reality soon. This path will require significant legal reforms, persuading the government and ensuring that the process is smooth with minimum roadblocks. As such, Dr. Mahtani owned Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide full legal and regulatory support to make this announcement a reality.
